Welcome to the opener of Waterfowl Season 2009! It's finally here, and I'm sure all you enthusiasts are just itching to get out in those fields or out onto the water. The team has been rearin' to go, and we've put in our fair share of work over the summer to prepare for this day. 2-shot, mini-mag and myself spent a decent portion of our summer weekends planting fields and preparing some areas for ponds to be dug. Scouting has been a regular activity for some of us, and the waterfowl population seems to be outstanding this year. Please, get out in those fields, get out on the water! Enjoy God's creation for a day, and take a youngster with you, that's the only way this tradition will stay alive.

Well, as you have heard from 2-shot, opening day of early season goose was a success. Preparation pays off once again! One thing you may have noticed in 2-shot's post is that neither mini-mag or myself are mentioned. Mini-mag will be out this weekend, probably in one of the fields we prepared earlier this summer, but as for myself, I'm expanding the range of Team Gunner by about 4 states. Being the oldest person on the team, I am blessed with the curse of being the first off to college. I am attending a college in far north-eastern Pennsylvania, which limits my ability to hunt with the rest of the team. I will be hunting some in Michigan this year, but as I adapt to this new state, I'm discovering the endless possabilities this state has to offer as well. There's an outstanding Canadian population out here, and the ducks fly over my campus every night like clockwork. I have said it before, and I will continue to say it: GET OUT IN THE FIELDS! many people have this pre-determined mindset that to get birds, you must go west or south... IT'S NOT TRUE! Go out, pick up a copy of your states hunting manual. Get online and look up state hunting land near your area, the possabilities are endless no matter where you live. Even if you don't hunt, find a field and enjoy the beauty of it.
